Bercle George asked:

Vegetable gardening tips are necessary most especially for beginners. These will surely help you achieve success in vegetable gardening if ever you want to have your own.

With the growing prices of vegetables in the market, it is quite practical that you are able to cultivate your own so that you can economize your spending and eat much healthier food. However, several constraints can hinder you in gardening and one example is the limited space. Don’t be hindered by this. All you need to have are home vegetable gardening tips and if you are new in this area, you’ll need home gardening tips for beginners.

Home vegetable-gardening has no big difference to growing flowers or herbs. That is, if vegetable gardening is done properly, you will surely achieve what you desire and will surely give you a fresher vegetables compared to what is sold in the market.

First, as part of your vegetable-gardening tips, you need to think of the size of your garden that you desire to be planted with vegetables. It must be a place of proper drainage, good soil, and appropriate sunlight. And because home vegetable gardening offers tasty food, it is vulnerable to animals such as dogs, deer, rabbit, etc. To prevent that, you make it sure that you are able to put fence around your garden to make it protected.

Vegetable-gardening for beginners can be quite laborious, however can be rewarding too. Having fresh vegetable is one thing that almost all desire to have and you are lucky if you are able to cultivate your own despite, perhaps, with limited area. You just need to be creative in order to achieve your goal in gardening. And, as I have said, home vegetable gardening tips can help you to achieve that.

Another vital thing to consider in home vegetable gardening is the garden arrangement. One strategy to maximize the space is to plant vegetables that only need limited space- those vegetables that do not expand too much. Remember also to put your tall-growing plants at the back side of your garden so that they do not block the sunlight that the small ones need.

When you are already prepared for planting, be sure that the kind of vegetables you are to plant is suitable for the specific season. You can consult books of vegetable-gardening for beginners for this. You can make an improvised place for a certain plants and get it transferred to its location when the appropriate season comes.

Vegetable gardening for beginners also include doing weeding and maintaining your garden out of foreign grasses because these can take the soil nutrients away from the vegetables. Grasses are their prime competitors. You can also protect your vegetables from insects by putting some organic chemicals.

Vegetable-gardening is one of the favorite pastimes of people. It is because, aside from being able to acquire fresh vegetables, you can also make it as a medium of exercise that is really relaxing. However, before you get started with your own, consider acquiring some vegetable gardening tips so that you can achieve the vegetable garden that you desire.

John Pawlett asked:

Gardens come in different varieties like the plants you find in them. There are several gardening tips that can be used for all type of gardens.

1.Mulching protects your garden topsoil from being blown away. It also provides nutrients as it decomposes and improves the appearance of your gardens. Mulching has other benefits and is one of the most recommended gardening tips by gardeners and farmers alike.

2.Healthy plants are more disease resistant. Plants are like people, a person with a strong immune system can combat diseases. A healthy plant does the same.

3. Pests can be eradicated by cleaning the plant with a watery solution of soap. Just make sure to rinse after. This gardening tip is best heeded for fruit bearing trees or edible plants.

4. Using compost fertilizers are a great way to have healthy plants. It is also a great way to save money on expensive fertilizers. Non -organic fertilizers also tend to leave chemical residues that can accumulate in garden soils and harm not only the plants but the gardeners as well. They cause toxins to go to the water supplies. Another gardening tip recommended not just by farmers and gardeners but also by environmentalists.

5. There are several plants that are only suitable for a specified climate, a certain kind of soil or can only grow with certain plants. You have to know what plant grow in the conditions you have in your area this is for you to avoid unnecessary purchases. This is a money saving gardening tip.

6.Landscaping is a good investment which can double the value of your home. This is one gardening tip that can earn you money.

7. Growing grass on bare ground is an easy way to make your home look better and appreciate in value. This is one gardening tip that promotes earning money while growing grass legally.

8. Aside from looking great in your home, trees also provide some sort of protection from direct sunlight exposure and strong winds.

9. Vines on the walls, fences and overhead structures also would offer some protection and would also look great.

10.Flowers are beautiful, but they are also expensive. Get one that is resistant to many elements. Flowers from your local community already have developed resistance to conditions present in your area.

11.For most gardens plants, their roots go only as deep as 6 inches. Putting fertilizer deeper than that would be a waste of money. Put them shallower as they seep down when the plants are being watered.

12.Earthworms are important to plants. They till and aerate the soil for the roots to breathe. Non-organic fertilizers can kill them. This gardening tip dates back to the old days of gardening.

13. Having several kinds of insects that are beneficial to your garden would be good. These insects can be encouraged to stay by having diverse plants in your garden.

14. Spot spraying weeds with household vinegar, instead of using commercial weed-killers, can eradicate them. This is another environment friendly gardening tip.

15. Avoid putting too much mulch on tree trunks; this would encourage unwanted pests to reside on them.

16. Use plant varieties that are common to your area or have been taken from an area with similar conditions.

17. Be sure to know the plants that are poisonous. If you are intent on growing them, make sure to have the necessary cure available in your household. Take note of this gardening tip, it can save your life.

18. The best time to water plants is during mornings.

19. Before planting a new plant in your garden, you must consider its height and size when it matures. This garden tip can help you save money in the future.

20. Newly transplanted plants may require special attention during its first week. This is to reduce the stress and shock it got during transplantation.

And last but not the least of the gardening tips…

21.Plants are living entities. If you want them to grow in your garden you have to treat them as such. They need to be taken care of. They are like your pets, you look out for them. In return you get that feeling of contentment watching them thrive.

A good way to take care of them is to consider that plants might have some feelings too.

Mary Hanna asked:

The popularity of organic food and gardening has certainly increased over the last few years. Not only does it give you a sense of well being but people love the beauty of wonderful colored flowers and the taste of vegetables they helped create. Organic gardening tips on how to successfully start and care for an organic garden are becoming easier to find as this type of gardening continues to become more popular. Along with being relaxing, it is a very interesting hobby. Anyone can organically produce wonderful fruits, herbs and vegetables and know that they are healthy to eat and pesticide, herbicide and chemical free. There will always be garden pests but instead of using chemicals to deal with this problem, there are many organic gardening tips to get rid of them, similar to the way gardeners did many years ago before the use of pesticides and herbicides.

A good homemade pest deterrent to use in organic gardening is:

In a jar, combine 1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid and 1 cup vegetable oil. Shake vigorously. In an empty spray bottle, combine 2 teaspoons of this mixture and 1 cup water. Use at ten-day intervals (or more often if needed) to rid plants of whiteflies, mites, aphids, scales, and other pests.

Following a few organic gardening tips, you will produce fruits, vegetables and herbs that are healthy, taste wonderful, are less expensive than buying produce at the grocery store and give you the peace of mind knowing exactly how they were grown and what was used on them. Aphids are annoying little insects that often cause a lot of damage in your garden. If you plant marigolds near your vegetable garden, the aphids will quit bothering your plants. If you already have an aphid problem, spray the infected plants with diluted soapy water and then spray them again with clear water. Organic gardening tips you should try are; instead of buying compost for your garden, which could contain chemicals, make your own while you cut down on garbage at the same time. Using your garden and kitchen waste is an excellent and very easy way to make your own compost. In your compost pile use peelings from carrots, potatoes and other vegetables, dead weeds, coffee grounds, egg shells and even the pruning from roses and other plants. The different textures help break down the compost quickly. Compost improves the soil texture, structure and aeration while enriching the soil, which stimulates root development. When choosing plants for your organic garden, make sure you choose ones that are well adapted for your area.

Here are a couple of great organic gardening tips that not only help keep your garden free of weeds but also keep the soil from drying out too quickly. Grass clippings and pine needles mixed or old newspapers make very good mulch, which keeps your garden weed free and the soil moist. Organic gardening tips help you grow healthy organic fruits and vegetable that you, your family and friends will love.

Most important of all, is to enjoy your organic garden and the fruits of your labor. Not only will you have the satisfaction of growing vegetables and herbs organically but you it will also inspire you in your culinary tasks.

Here’s to a great organic garden and fabulous, healthy meals.

Copyright © Mary Hanna, All Rights Reserved.

This article may be distributed freely on your website and in your ezines, as long as this entire article, copyright notice, links and the resource box are unchanged.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

as lung problems, allergies or even cancer. If gardeners refrain from using these dangerous products then they are saving anyone who consumes their products from a lot of health hazards.

2. Look for non-toxic weed killers. These are available in organic gardening supply stores everywhere and are much environmentally and medically safer than the ones found in the gardening sections of hardware stores. Organic products are guaranteed to be safe for everyone.

3. Read the labels of every gardening product you buy, to make sure that they only consist of natural and chemical-free products. This will let your garden be totally organic in nature and much healthier than non-organic gardens. It is advisable not to let the personnel at the stores direct you – simply don’t buy it if it doesn’t have “all natural” or “organic” written on the label. When in doubt, ask an organic gardening expert, especially those in stores, write the names of the products down and find them on the Internet. This is your best bet and the least risky one and will allow you to find the perfect products for your organic garden.

4. Be absolutely certain that you use organic gardening tips taken from very reliable and trustworthy sources. Retail or wholesale outlets either do not have any organic products or have very little of them and thus are not in a position to advise you in any way as far as organic gardening is concerned. Either through ignorance or deliberately, they will give you wrong information and probably discourage you to look for and use organic products, citing many reasons, none of which are reliable enough to trust. Organic gardening stores and the Internet are perfect places to look for organic gardening tips.

Brooke Hayles asked:

When you do your gardening, you always end up with some leaves and weeds, dead plants and probably some grass clippings. Most people see this as rubbish and send it off to the landfill. Not only is this a waste of one of nature’s fertilizers but it takes time and money to get rid of this garden ‘rubbish’. So, what alternative is there? Well, a gardening tip to consider is do what nature would do and use all this garden ‘rubbish’ to provide nutrients for your garden. Following are the gardening tips to help you convert this garden ‘rubbish’ to compost.

The first thing to know is that organic waste is considered better for your garden than any chemical fertilizer on the market. Nature has a decomposition process that promotes proper chemical change resulting in excellent nutritional benefits to the plants in the garden.

Of course, the question is, “Where shall I put this pile of smelly garden ‘rubbish’”? Gardening tips; your compost heap shouldn’t be smelly and if it is, you need to alter the composition of it to prevent it becoming anaerobic ie too much nitrogen. This requires the heap not being too wet and having enough oxygen. Once you’ve got the balance right, you will find that the decomposition process is actually producing some fertilizer that isn’t a pong to the nose!

So, what does this suitable place for a fertilizer heap look like? Gardening tips; is should be an area that has plenty of width space and not too deep. If it’s too deep, the materials down low in the pile will not be able to get enough of the necessary requirements, and you end up with a smelly heap. Try to choose an area where you can spread out the garden ‘rubbish’. You can, if you’ve got the space, have two heaps side by side. Remember, it’s width not depth that’s important.

What rubbish can you put into the heap to be converted to garden food? Gardening tips; it must be quickly decomposable – that is, able to rot away quickly. Did you know that orange peel takes years to decompose? Therefore, it’s not suitable; nor is meat or diseased plants. However, you can use most other organic material including grass clippings, woody plants, leaves, and vegetable scraps. Using your lawn mower, shred garden ‘rubbish’ to help quick decomposition.

How do you start the composting process? Gardening tips; make the materials as small as possible. Mix up the pile quite frequently to allow oxygen into the heap which will aid the decomposing process. Water periodically, but not too much as this is a sure way to invite anaerobic micro-organisms which will give you a smelly pile.

No matter what, your compost pile will be a little unsightly. Gardening tips; find a place that isn’t easily seen and is also near the garden areas that you will want to fertilize. Be aware of your neighbours; it may be out of sight for you but right in the vision of your neighbor. They really don’t want your compost heap near their entertaining area! Construct a compost pen for your pile, or buy a ready-made compost bin to contain all the decomposing material.

Summary:

Use your garden ‘rubbish’ as garden food and put back nutrients into the soil. Some gardening tips will ensure that you get a good start to making your own fertilizer.

Generally, people are habituated by washing it but fail to draw attention to clean the tools after they get dry. So a better option would be to use a dry cloth for cleaning purpose.

Gardening tips could be easily found by way of web search, magazines.
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Most people invest a huge sum of money to landscape the garden in order to give a facelift to the house. However, if the garden is not pruned or maintained, all efforts are wasted, giving the garden a terrible look. It is therefore, necessary to be aware of some gardening tips for the maintenance of the lawns and the garden. Some tips on the methods of avoiding the fungus formation are described below:

Pruning:

Pruning plants at the right time plays a very important role in their development. This is an essential task for a gardener. A bad pruning job can be likened to a bad haircut it will grow back again.

Avoid watering plants in the evening:

During the summer months, there is high humidity, and this may result in retention of moisture in the garden, thus increasing the problem of fungal infection. Plants should be kept dry during the night. Dampness during the night may promote the formation of fungus. Therefore, it is better to avoid watering them in the evening. They may be watered as early during the day as possible.

Get rid of mildew:

Powdery mildew is a common fungus that mostly affects ornamental plants. It will create a white film on the leaves of the plants in the garden. Ornamental plants like Dogwoods and Sand cherry are also prone to attack by this fungus. It is necessary to curb the development of this fungus because it can ruin the plants. Powdery mildew formation can be prevented by spraying a general fungicide over all the plants and the lawn.

Pythium Blight:

Pythium Blight is a type of fungus that thrives in humid conditions. If perennial Rye grass has been planted in the lawn, then care should be taken to see that it does not remain wet during the night. The growth of the fungus can be seen during the morning. It appears like white cotton candy covered over the lawn. It is mainly seen along walkways and driveways if the soil is moist. The lawn can be watered during the daytime to prevent formation of this fungus.

Fire Blight:

Fire Blight is yet another type of fungus that thrives during the summer months. This fungus attacks plants like Pyracantha, crabapple trees, cotoneasters, and apple trees. Fire Blight can be easily observed when a branch of the plant turns red and dies. It can be prevented from spreading by cutting off the affected branch and keeping it away from the main plant as much as possible. It is also important to burn the cut branches since Fire Blight is contagious and will spread easily to the rest of the plant and surrounding vegetation. The shears used for pruning may be either washed or dipped in alcohol to prevent the infection from spreading.

Shotgun fungus

This is a small gem like fungus that grows in mulch and begins to swell. This variety of fungus can fly up to 8 feet in the air and spatter the walls with tiny brown specks. The specks stick firmly to the wall or windowpanes and even the plants. The brown spots can be mistaken for tiny spiders. It is difficult to prevent the growth of this fungus. However, keeping the mulch loose so that air can circulate is one way of reducing the infestation. It is a good idea to replace the mulch with a fresh lot at least once a year. It can also be raked flat to loosen it, regularly.

Abhishek Agarwal asked:

Home and garden owners in the country and city alike are the type of people who’d love to see their garden in bloom, even the tiny patches of land they may have because a garden in bloom is a thing of beauty and refreshes weary spirits anytime of the day. Even otherwise, a well-kept garden is a thing of pride for the owner and also gives home owners something to tend to with their own hands and watch it flower before their eyes, so they have the satisfaction of having grown something with their own hands right before them, which is very fulfilling.

If you are limitations of space and live in a small city apartment, you need not get disheartened as even you can ingeniously use small spaces to create garden-area, such as planter boxes, window-sill boxes, potted plants in the space you usually reserve for storing BBQ items or even the narrow confine of a corridor space used for stacking the bicycle. Hanging overhead pots and indoor plants is another good idea for bringing in some greenery into your home, especially when you are strapped for space.

Not only is it relaxing to have a soothing green space filled with lovely plants and flowers outside, but even the inner sanctuary can be much brightened up and used to reflect nature’s beauty by using container plants for growing greens.

Many city dwellers keen to utilize the balance of organic food have taken to growing their own veggies in a small kitchen garden area and easily grow tomatoes, herbs and flowers using simple, gardening tips for daily tending.

Balconies are especially good spaces, whether long and narrow or short and wide, for growing shrubs, trees and plants of different heights if only the ends and corners are trimmed properly, regularly. One can create interesting points of décor around the area where potted plants are kept, such as using bright, colored flowering plants in a semi-circular arrangement, split-level pot arrangements or even placing colored stones and rockery designs around it.

The other way to show off bright and beautiful colors is to set-off the shades with mirrored back-ground, pieces of colored glass and beads to reflect the colors of the flowering plants or simply placing them on a window sill that can also be viewed from inside the house.

If you live in a cold place, then it is only wise to move plants indoors or line the containers with foam to protect them from the chilly climate. City gardeners need to be especially wary of frost and excessive rain when wanting their apartment blooms to stay that way. Hibiscus blooms are pretty, tall flowers that grow to a good 3-4 feet in height while the miniature Alberta white spruce has lovely gray-green dense needles that beautifully offset these bright flowers, so are a good addition for a beginner gardener.

You can also have the pretty, light-colored sweet potato vine growing over a pot end over darker plants and remember to water the plants daily besides checking for their balance of soil and sun.
